Moderate
Hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiles on some areas.
HUNTING IS ALLOWED. PLEASE WEAR ORANGE AND OUTFIT YOUR DOG TOO.
Logging has ruined most of this trail and overgrowth has ruined the rest. There are snippets of the way it used to be, but it won’t be beautiful again in my lifetime. Check out my former post, Heald slashed. mikicc.org/heald.
Here are the visions of a time gone by, on a trail worth avoiding, until deep snow covers the wounds.
We made our way from the parking lot to the back of the pond. Fishing is allowed from the shore. Please follow guidelines.
The detour took us across an area probably not passable except in times of drought.
This little cove is worth the trek.
Rusty loves a dip.
From here we backtracked and headed to the Fisk Hill trail.
There are remnants of the way it used to be before the slashing.

A bit of a climb and a moment of indecision before we reach the top of the hill.
A mess. Fortunately we saw these markers as other indicators were no longer visible.
On up to the summit with a great view. Snow and snowmobiles will make this a better hike.
We hot paused looking for the c trail. A bit of history on the wayvup. Very overgrown. As mentioned, Phil used to mow trails through here. The view is better than one would expect. Used to be a huge Turkey nesting ground.
And down the hill back toward parking. Nature will heal and in 20 years a new forest will be enjoyed.
In the meantime we will avoid the destruction and remember Heald the way it used to be.
